CGA AGM and Executive Conference

The Canadian Gas Association 2010 Annual General Meeting and Executive Conference was held at the National Art Gallery in Ottawa, Ontario. This event featured an exciting line up of high profile and thought provoking speakers offering their perspective on a range of topics and issues relating to energy policy.
A lunch panel of former political officials offered their insight and perspective on topics that ranged from how to get political traction on energy issues in the current policy and political environmental as well as how to effectively advocate in Ottawa.
Delegates were invited to participate in a "Conservation with" Gordon Giffin former Ambassador of the United States to Canada and Frank McKenna, former Ambassador of Canada to the United States, moderated by Peter Mansbridge, Chief Correspondent of CBC Television News, on topics ranging from Canada/U.S. relations specific to energy policy, interprovincial relations, climate change and the economy.

Gas Measurement School

This event provided delegates with an excellent opportunity to develop and enhance their skills to stay on top of our rapidly changing industry. The three-day School featured technical papers, presentations and panel discussions from Industry experts, hands-on learning sessions, manufacturer exhibits and a new product showcase.

2010 Engineering Conference

The 2009 CGA Engineering Conference was held in Victoria, BC. The workshop was an excellent learning and networking opportunity for individuals involved in distribution system engineering, planning, integrity management and operations. The workshop was targeted at engineers, front line supervisors, and managers involved in these areas. The two day program included a variety of interactive workshops and trade show for manufacturers and suppliers to exhibit their innovative new products an services.
Thanks to Pacific Northern Gas Ltd and Alta Gas Utilities for hosting this event and the organizing committee for working to ensure that the event was a success!
CGA Operations Conference

The natural gas industry is continually changing. Companies are facing both challenges and opportunities driven by aging infrastructure, workforce demographics, technology development, and evolving codes and standards. This workshop offered a unique networking and learning forum, encouraging valuable information exchange among the participants.
The workshop was targeted at front line supervisors and managers involved in operations.
This two day program included interactive workshops, round table discussions, hands-on sessions and a trade show for suppliers to exhibit their new and innovative products.
The CGA would also like to congratulate Ian Turnbull, winner of the Canadian Gas Association Leadership Award for lifetime Achievement, the Operations Team at Heritage Gas, winners of the Canadian Gas Association Leadership Award for public safety, John Holsappel and Jeff Gallie from Union Gas Ltd., winners of the Canadian Gas Association Leadership Award for worker safety, and Manitoba Hydro, recipient of the Canadian Gas Association Corporate Leadership Award. 2010 Regulatory Course

This course focused on the regulatory environment faced by Canadian natural gas transmission and distribution utilities, with reference to similarities to electric regulation and emerging regulatory approaches.
The course objective were to develop a more complete and practical understanding of the Canadian natural gas regulatory framework and, in particular, the ratemaking process.

Natural Gas Technology Futures Workshop
February 9-10, 2010
Ottawa, ON
This workshop explored technology pathways and collaborative mechanisms that will optimize the contribution of natural gas - and of the natural gas distribution industry - towards attaining a low-carbon future in Canada. It convened participants from the natural gas utilities, industry, policy makers, research community and energy users to look at technology opportunities in all end-use sectors of the economy: housing and buildings, transportation, industrial processes and community energy solutions. It also covered end-use systems and equipment efficiency improvements, operator and occupant energy management tools, hybrid technologies (e.g. solar or geothermal with gas), biogas upgrade, distributed co-generation, district energy systems, etc.

Industrial Application of Gas Turbine Symposium

The Industrial Application of Gas Turbines (IAGT) Committee is a Technical Advisory Group to Canadian industry and government. It provided a forum for the exchange and dissemination of ideas and the communication of new developments related to the industrial application of gas turbines in Canada. The vehicle for communication is a biennial technical symposium for the presentation of technical papers and expert panel discussions. Sectors of industry involved included research and development, application, performance, operation, maintenance and user experience.
