Communications Coordinator

Overview

The Canadian Gas Association (CGA) has been the national voice for the gas energy delivery industry in Canada since the association’s creation in 1907. Based primarily in Ottawa and Calgary, with a staff of just under 50 professionals, CGA advocates for the industry through both not-for-profit and for-profit corporations utilizing projects, initiatives and standing committees in the areas of innovation, environmental performance, systems operations, regulatory and legislative affairs and corporate communications.

The Canadian Gas Association is the national voice for the gas energy delivery industry in Canada. CGA members deliver reliable, affordable and low-emission natural gas, hydrogen and renewable natural gas that meets almost 40% of our nation’s energy needs through a network of 585,000 kilometers of infrastructure. The industry operates in eight provinces and one territory, delivering gas energy to homes, businesses, hospitals, schools, and industrial customers. The gas energy industry is poised for growth and opportunity and is the fastest growing source of energy in Canada over the last decade. With this promising outlook comes the opportunity to shape the public profile of CGA and its membership within the dynamic energy policy landscape in Canada.

To elevate our public brand and positioning with members, external stakeholders, and the media, we are seeking a communications coordinator to join our Ottawa-based team.

This is a permanent, full-time role located at the CGA offices in Ottawa, Ontario.

Position Summary

This position will report directly to the director of communications. The communications coordinator will work closely with CGA’s communications team and member companies to support the development, execution, and amplification of the organization’s public-facing materials and its media relations activities. We are seeking a proactive, strategic, detail-oriented individual to join our team. Strong writing skills will be a key requirement.

Job Requirements

  • Support the communications team in achieving CGA’s communications objectives, through the development, implementation, and delivery of written and communication products
  • Creation of social media content based on the social strategy
  • Coordinate, create and manage the deployment of CGA’s monthly newsletter
  • Support in developing communications materials including website copy, blogs, presentations, board updates, press releases, media statements etc.
  • Monitor media, reporting and follow-up with media outlets
  • Analyse social media metrics and apply strategies to increase followers and engagement on CGA’s LinkedIn and X accounts
  • Support the coordination, planning, and logistics for CGA’s webinars and virtual/in-person events
  • Support the communications team with paid digital promotions and other outreach materials

Qualifications and Experience

  • Excellent writing skills for various platforms and an ability to edit and condense content
  • Excellent verbal communication skills
  • Must be knowledgeable in and proficient in using social media and other communications tools including X, LinkedIn, YouTube, Mailchimp, Salesforce (Pardot and Sales Cloud), Hootsuite, WordPress, Microsoft Office and Teams, analytic tools (Google Analytics) and database management.
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal, organizational, and technical skills
  • Ability to work independently and is a self-starter
  • Well organized, detail-oriented, and able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment with team motivation while taking initiative and working with minimum supervision
  • Post-secondary education in public relations, communications, journalism, media relations, or a related field
  • Bilingual English/French will be an asset
  • Minimum of one year of professional experience
  • Must be eligible to work in Canada legally

Work conditions: Although subject to change, we currently work under a two-day/week working in the office, three-day/week working remotely operating model with an “all-hands-in” day every Wednesday.
