Natural gas is brought to the surface using wells that feed gathering systems that bring the natural gas to processing plants. Once processed, natural gas is transported by pipelines, rail, marine, and trucks to customers throughout Canada and the United States or internationally by marine vessel in the form of liquefied natural gas (LNG).

Natural Gas Components

Renewable Natural Gas

Renewable natural gas is a 100% renewable product, produced from organic waste from farms, forests, landfills, and water treatment plants.

Hydrogen

Another renewable gas is hydrogen (H2) which is the most abundant element in the universe. It can be produced through steam methane reforming – which uses high-temperature steam to separate methane (CH4) into carbon dioxide (CO2) and hydrogen (H2). Renewable hydrogen can also be produced through electrolysis using electricity to separate water (H2O) into hydrogen (H2) and oxygen (O2).
