Canadian Natural Gas Utility Workers’ Day is October 10th, a day that marks the anniversary of the final weld on TC Energy’s natural gas mainline infrastructure system completed in 1958. The mainline system connects western Canadian energy supplies to eastern markets, serving millions of consumers. On this day, we commemorate the important role of natural gas utility workers in supporting communities across the country with the safe and efficient delivery of affordable and reliable natural gas.

What you love to do after work?
“I’ve been playing the piano my whole life. I started playing just by ear, then I learned how to read music in high school. I also love to go fishing and snowmobiling.”

Manager, Automation and Measurement Engineering, SaskEnergy

What do you enjoy most about your job?
“Finding process efficiencies with the use of data analytics, troubleshooting issues and finding creative solutions — either through process improvement, repairing or upgrading a failed piece of equipment.”
What is your best work memory?
“I led a project to understand the data from the time a meter is installed to the time that we start service, which allowed me to have a detailed understanding of the business and all the departments. A lot of process inefficiencies, waste and rework were discovered during that project. We were able to create a roadmap of projects focusing on integrating and automating information, which will help reduce the errors of manual entry and increase efficiencies overall, using technology.”
What you love to do after work?
“I really love hanging out with my family and friends. My husband and I had the adventure of building our own house on an acreage. We designed it, did the general contracting, and built a house meant to host people. I want friends and family to feel like our house is like a vacation when they come for a visit.”
How does your work impact your customers?
“The automation team makes sure gas is safely transported throughout Saskatchewan by automating the process flow through our compressor stations and other assets, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The measurement team ensures that we accurately and fairly charge our customers for consumption. Both disciplines are responsible for evaluating, testing and implementing new technology that provides our business with data to make sound decisions on our assets and infrastructure, focusing on operational efficiencies and helping measure and report on emissions.”
