Canadian Gas Association Recognizes Canadian Natural Gas Utility Workers’ Day

Each year on October 10th, the Canadian Gas Association (CGA) recognizes Canadian Natural Gas Utility Workers’ Day (CNGUWD). On this day, we commemorate the important role of natural gas utility workers in supporting communities across the country with the safe and efficient delivery of affordable and reliable natural gas.

This year marks the second in a row that utility workers had to navigate providing critical energy delivery services in the face of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. These workers provide essential services that keep energy flowing safely to Canadian homes, businesses, industries, and important facilities like hospitals and schools. Public and worker safety is the industry’s top priority and CGA’s members work hard to ensure safety performance is always improving.

“A tremendous amount of work goes on behind the scenes so that well over 20 million Canadians at home and at work continue to have homes heated, food cooked, showers hot, vehicles fuelled, and industries operating with natural gas,” said Timothy M. Egan, President and CEO of the Canadian Gas Association. “The incredible group of people who work across Canada’s natural gas delivery industry should be proud of what they quietly do every day for their communities and our country.”

The official Canadian Natural Gas Utility Workers’ Day is October 10th, a day that marks the anniversary of the final weld on the cross-Canada natural gas mainline infrastructure system completed in 1957.  The mainline system connects western Canadian energy supplies to eastern markets, serving millions of consumers.

CGA invites Canadians to learn more about some of its member companies and the work their employees do through the #CNGUWD campaign on Twitter and LinkedIn. Join us and show your support for your local natural gas utility through our channels!

About CGA
The Canadian Gas Association (CGA) is the voice of Canada’s gaseous energy delivery industry, including natural gas, renewable natural gas (RNG) and hydrogen. CGA membership includes energy distribution and transmission companies, equipment manufacturers, and suppliers of goods and services to the industry. CGA’s utility members are Canadian-owned and active in eight provinces and one territory. CGA members meet 38 per cent of Canada’s energy needs through a network of over 573,000 kilometres of underground infrastructure. The versatility and resiliency of this infrastructure allows it to deliver an ever-changing gas supply mix to over 7.3 million customer locations representing approximately two-thirds of Canadians. CGA members ensure Canadians get the affordable, reliable, clean gaseous energy they want and need. CGA is also working to constantly improve that gaseous energy offering, by driving forward innovation through the Natural Gas Innovation Fund (NGIF).
