The Canadian Gas Association (CGA) is pleased to present SaskEnergy Inc. with the third annual Michael Mulcahy Award for Excellence and Innovation in Customer Care and Service (Mulcahy Award) for their Carbon Monoxide (CO) Safety Portfolio.
The award was presented virtually by Leigh Ann Shoji Lee, Chair of the CGA Board of Directors and President and CEO of Pacific Northern Gas Ltd., and by Timothy M. Egan, President and CEO of CGA and Chair of NGIF Capital Corporation. Ken From, President and CEO of SaskEnergy, along with representatives from the utility’s Customer Solutions Team, received the award.
SaskEnergy’s multi-channel portfolio was designed to educate and promote awareness among Saskatchewan residents on the dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning. The portfolio consists of a CO alarm rebate program, an advertising campaign to raise the general awareness of CO and associated risks, a SaskEnergy service technician CO alarm distribution program, and the inclusion of free CO alarms with the Tune-Up Assistance Program (TAP) and SaskEnergy Network Home Heating Tune-Ups.
SaskEnergy was recognized in 2020 for their TAP which educates homeowners about the importance of annual home heating maintenance and supports families in need with free furnace maintenance service.
The Mulcahy Award was created in memory of Michael Mulcahy, former President and CEO of FortisBC and former Chair of the Canadian Gas Association. It recognizes significant achievements by members of the natural gas delivery industry in the area of innovation and service to natural gas users and customers.
CGA congratulates SaskEnergy and all other nominees for their continuous work supporting customers in communities across Canada.
“The Michael Mulcahy Award was established by CGA’s Board of Directors in 2019 to recognize a member company initiative that enhances service to our customers. Particularly during this unprecedented time of pandemic and lockdowns, it is important to focus on support for our communities and customers. SaskEnergy’s CO Safety Portfolio demonstrates the natural gas delivery industry’s commitment to customer service and safety.” Timothy M. Egan, President and CEO, Canadian Gas Association and Chair, NGIF Capital Corporation
About the Mulcahy Award
The Mulcahy Award was created in memory of Michael Mulcahy, former President and CEO of FortisBC and former Chair of the Canadian Gas Association. It recognizes significant achievement (over and above everyday activities) by members of the natural gas delivery industry in the area of innovation and service to natural gas users/customers. The award also serves to help guide other CGA member utilities on their journey to excellent and innovative customer service. Through participation in the Mulcahy Award process, all will benefit from exposure to the efforts of others in the industry, thereby raising its overall standard of customer care – a huge priority for Mike Mulcahy in his many years of service to customers in the industry.
The Canadian Gas Association is the voice of Canada’s natural gas delivery industry. Its membership includes natural gas distribution and transmission companies, equipment manufacturers, and suppliers to the industry. Our utility members are active in eight provinces and one territory and meet 35 per cent of Canadians’ energy needs through a network of over 566,000 kilometers of underground infrastructure. This infrastructure can also be used to deliver renewable gases including renewable natural gas and hydrogen, in order to contribute to Canada’s greenhouse gas emission reductions. Today, over 7.2 million customer locations representing approximately two-thirds of Canadians, rely on natural gas for clean, affordable and reliable heating and power. CGA owns CGA Enterprises, which in turn owns NGIF Capital Corporation.
