Canadian Gas Association announces the departure of longest-serving President and CEO Timothy M. Egan

The Canadian Gas Association (CGA) today announced that Timothy M. Egan, its President and Chief Executive Officer since September 1, 2010, will be stepping down from his role. Egan’s nearly 16-year tenure makes him the association’s longest-serving President and CEO, marking a significant chapter of leadership and impact.

Since taking on the role in 2010, Egan has been a driving force behind the association’s evolution. His vision strengthened the value proposition of natural gas utilities and their infrastructure as drivers of economic and physical security for Canadians.

Egan guided the association through historically complex periods in energy policy and public discourse. He consistently championed the principle that Canadians deserve the right to choose an energy option that is affordable, reliable and safe.

“Tim’s contributions to CGA and to Canada’s natural gas system are extraordinary,” said Roger Dall’Antonia, Chair of the CGA Board of Directors. “His ability to articulate the value of natural gas infrastructure to Canadians, navigate challenging policy landscapes, and build strong relationships across sectors has left an enduring imprint on the association and the energy community.”

Egan’s leadership elevated Canada’s profile on the global stage. Under his direction, CGA successfully hosted two major international energy events, LNG 2023 and IGRC 2024, bringing together thousands of global producers, researchers, innovators, and policy leaders in Canada. As the International Gas Union’s North American Regional Coordinator, he ensured that the Canadian natural gas industry was represented in critical global dialogue on energy issues.

Within CGA, Egan is known as both a strategic and thoughtful leader. His commitment to staff development has created a legacy in the form of a motivated, innovative and highly capable team that has, and will continue to play, a central role in shaping the future of Canadian energy policy.

Further information about the leadership transition will be shared in the coming days.

About the Canadian Gas Association (CGA)

The Canadian Gas Association (CGA) is the voice of Canada’s gas energy delivery industry, including natural gas, renewable natural gas (RNG) and hydrogen. CGA membership includes energy distribution and transmission companies, equipment manufacturers, and suppliers of goods and services to the industry. CGA’s utility members are Canadian-owned and active in eight provinces and one territory. The Canadian natural gas delivery industry meets almost 40 per cent of Canada’s energy needs through a network of almost 600,000 kilometres of underground infrastructure. The versatility and resiliency of this infrastructure allow it to deliver an ever-changing gas supply mix to over 7.6 million customer locations, representing approximately two-thirds of Canadians.
