CGA statement on the One Canadian Economy Act

The proposed One Canadian Economy Act is intended to unlock Canada’s economic potential. Canada’s natural gas delivery industry supports this goal.

In particular, we welcome any focus on infrastructure as a tool to strengthen our domestic energy advantage and increase access to external markets. Reversing the shift of manufacturing to the United States, improving affordability for homeowners, supporting Indigenous economic reconciliation, and ensuring reliable energy across the country all rely on timely investments in gas infrastructure.

We encourage the federal government to align existing and proposed regulations with the objectives of the Building Canada framework and move forward with the launch of the Federal Major Projects Office. We would also note that indigenous consultation must be a central part of this process to help ensure the framework delivers shared benefits and real progress.

To fully secure Canada’s energy future, we believe further steps will be needed. Changes to the existing framework are necessary to enable critical investment in natural gas infrastructure and ensure long-term domestic energy security.
